One of our greatest living songwriters, Fred Eaglesmith has traveled a long road, from the fields of Southern Ontario, raised on a farm with 11 brothers and sisters; to Nashville, where his songs were covered by the top country singers of the day (Miranda Lambert, Alan Jackson, Toby Keith); to hundreds of thousands of miles on the road with his legendary Flying Squirrels, Smoking Losers and Traveling Steam Show in a series of consistently unreliable buses. In 1999 the Fred Eaglesmith Weekend in Bellows Falls, Vermont was born, growing into the beloved Roots on the River festival. There have been Fred trains across Canada, Fred boats to Newfoundland, even a Fred bus - the Route 66 "Tin Can Caravan." Through it all, Eaglesmith has written hundreds of extraordinary songs, and delivered them with equal parts humor and intensity. Truly, he is one of the greats, and we welcome him and his new band, The Velvet Frogs, back to Bellows Falls.
